The Omegle alternative, but cute and safe
Omegle shut down on 8 November 2023. Waku keeps the best part, a random stranger in seconds, and adds bot checks, anonymous profiles you can reveal if you click, and Portals where you can watch movies, YouTube or music together. No email or phone needed.
About Omegle
Omegle paired strangers at random for text and video from 2009 until it shut down on 8 November 2023. Its founder said running it was no longer sustainable, and the closure followed the settlement of a lawsuit over the site's design.
Waku vs Omegle
| Waku | Omegle | |
|---|---|---|
| To sign up | A nickname and a picture. No email, no real photos | Nothing (it's shut down) |
| Meeting people | Random strangers in seconds, or swipe and chat once they accept | Whoever you were randomly paired with |
| Watch together | Portals: movies, shows, YouTube and music, synced | Nothing to do together |
| Bots and spam | Bot checks; links and handles blocked | Bots were common |
| Camera | No webcam. Text, GIFs, photos and files | Random webcam video |
Why people switch
- Random is instant, like Omegle, with Next and Stop.
- Bot checks keep fakes and spammers out.
- Something to do together: Portals for movies, YouTube and music.
Where Omegle is better
Omegle had random video with strangers. Random here is text, GIFs and files, with no webcam.
